Boomkat Product Review:
Neatly following his split 12" with Ben Sims, Stephen Brown heads up two sterling pieces of Scottish hi-tech funk deeply indebted to Detroit. It's hard to deny the similarities between this and Shed's killer EQ'd or Wax sides, but that's hardly a bad thing, now. Is it? A-side 'Son' is all about the build-up, raining metallic dub chords and filtered techno skipple until you're begging it to drop; and when the kick comes, you know about it! B-side 'Gate 5' gets down to business straight away, filling in hard-swung drums and dub chords with filigree percussive detail for the sort of dextruous, body gratifying groove you simply don't get from the my-kickdrum's-harder-than-your's crew.
