Boomkat Product Review:
The closing track from her album Bird-Brains, 'Real Live Flesh' once again finds Merrill Garbus demonstrating her wares as one of 4AD's weirdest signings. The track is a woozily lo-fi downtempo beast that's a little reminiscent of one of the more soulful, post trip-hop moments on Leila's Like Weather album. B-side 'Youth' is similarly cobbled together, using what sounds like someone playing with cutlery as a drum beat. I suppose if you're being very generous you might draw parallels with Tom Waits' Real Gone album, but frankly, that'd be very generous indeed.
