Boomkat Product Review:
They might have a funny name, but Padang Food Tigers make some of the most delicately lovely music we’ve heard for a while. Made up of Spencer Grady and Stephen Lewis (2/3rds of Rameses III) this is the second record to emerge from the Padang camp, and somehow the duo have honed and refined their sound to come up with a perfect and incredibly succinct sophomore record. Using banjo, guitar and a selection of field recordings it is the sheer unpretentiousness that manages to set ‘Ready Country Nimbus’ apart from similar records. There is more than a hint of Scott Tuma’s evolved Americana in the compositions, but there is also an air of Britishness and Celtic folk music that for us can be traced to Virginia Astley’s stunning ‘In Gardens Where We Feel Secure’. As raindrops trickle down the windows accompanied by a lightly plucked Banjo on the album’s title track there can be no mistaking the heritage of the music, and that’s what makes it so special. A warm hug of an album, and a massive recommendation.
