Boomkat Product Review:
This EP from the increasingly active Wire camp finds the seminal punk outfit restrategising their sound. There's not much for Elastica to pilfer here: these four tracks are rammed with more sedately melodic pop music, all a far cry from the band's jagged beginnings. Opener '23 Years Too Late' is the most interesting thing here, with sinister spoken word passages, skewed lyrics and icy motorik rhythms. More direct is 'No Warning Given', exhibiting both the strongest melody and the thickest production. This all makes you wonder what their forthcoming album's going to sound like, although apparently none of these tracks will be appearing on that release. Clearly, the new Wire sound is a work in progress.
