Boomkat Product Review:
Blast First Petite and Sabotage Records have teamed up to redeliver this killer hit of contemporary post punk by San Francisco's highly touted Rank Xerox. As with their feted four-track 7" and split with Grass Widow, their eponymous debut deals in stripped down, driving drum and guitar discord and snotty vocals prodded by unbridled reserves of urgency. There's still a underlying punk-pop sensibility to their arrangements and jangling hooks, but it's all set just off centre to avoid unwanted cliches and make out with the right ones, arriving at a seemingly effortless and often lip-bitingly heavy sound landing somewhere between the cleaner, leaner sounds of Blood Music or Factory Floor, and the scuzzy thrash of Sic Alps. It should come as little surprise then that Ty Segall is responsible for the recording in his Chinatown dungeon with Eric Bauer (aka King Riff). Tipped!
