Boomkat Product Review:
Archival gravy from incomparable, radical black metal alchemists Wold, under the direction of Fortress Crookedjaw aka the master of mentation electronics, Black Mecha.
The first birth on Owe CD (what a name!?) raids the hutch for three germs originally intended for a thwarted 7”, that serve to perfectly mess with preconceptions of the unique unit. ‘Rabbit Cabinet’ now scrolls back to 2012, venturing the crystal cavernous hall-of-mirrors electronic introspection to ‘Library Lodge’ alongside what sound like a death march played from a room down the corridors of your mind in its title track, as well as a text-to-speech manifesto for their pentagonal praxis in ‘RabCab Hidden’.
While rooted at the fringes of black metal since the turn of the millennium, the Saskatchewan-hailing, now Providence RI-based Wold have consistently refused any generic bracket other than their own. Their ‘Freermasonry’ LP issued by Stephen O'Malley's Ideologic Organ was our first introduction, and lead us to jaw-dropping works such as ‘L.O.T.M.P.’, both of which are highly recommended listening and ideal dive-off points into their catalogue.
Your guess is as good as anyone’s, and open imaginations will find themselves in thrall to the enigma on offer, if yr quick enough to snag one of the handful in stock. We <3 it.
