Boomkat Product Review:
Razika are a wonderfully perky group of 19 year old girls from Bergen, Norway, with a charming line in sugary Ska-pop. Almost anyone who encountered last years bilingual debut 7" 'Nytt På Nytt/Taste My Dream' was instantly smitten, and drew them comparisons with a stack of early '80s post-punks like The Slits, The Raincoats or Swell Maps. However, the girls themselves would probably be more inclined to list the usual modern rites of passage such as Green Day and The Ramones, or, perhaps more particular to their background, Norwegian New wave group Program 81, who directly inspired their title (the '91 bit is their year of birth). Essentially, all that should tell you that they've got an instantly likeable and very classic sound, as summery and poppy as Peter, Bjorn and John, but with a keenly absorbed ska reggae lilt and attitude which finds the perfect middle ground between late-night, detached cool and youthful ebullience. The twelve songs of 'Program 91' comfortably alternate between Norwegian and English as they see fit, and should surely endear themselves to almost anyone with a thing for beautifully constructed, innocent pop music.
