Boomkat Product Review:
Fat City assemble their troops for an outstanding collection of deeper hiphop and electronic soul grooves. 'Producer #2' gathers beats from their choice run of 7"s & 12" releases courtesy of Martyn, Dabrye, Mike Slott, Harmonic 313, dBridge and Daedelus among others for one disc of the prime stuff. Carlos Niño is always a good place to start and his 'Space Hammock' with Gaby Hernandez lulls us into the mood with ease. Meanwhile, recent Numbers initiate Low Limit hits up the moon-boot bounce of 'Inspirational Jumpsuit' followed by Martyn's truly exceptional remix of Blackpocket's 'U're A Sta', the first time it's been available on CD and worth the price of admission alone. Trust! New blood Illum Sphere gives his crackly cosmic transmissions of 'Medusa' and Mike Slott hugely impresses with the caramelised keys of 'Home' made for the late night smokers. Psyched out heads will probably need to take extra meds for Tandy Love's 'Yagmur', aka the source for a recent Gonja Sufi killer lifted from the 'Anagram Jam' sessions, but some of the best is saved for last with Dabrye's electroid mutant 'Walk' and dBridge's staggering 'ZX Eight One'. This is a brilliantly coherant vision of present/future hiphop that should be considered on the same level as Rush Hour's 'Beat Dimension' series and comes recommended to any beatnuts who know what's good for them.
