Boomkat Product Review:
Vintage ‘90s ambient minerals from The Black Dog/Plaid’s Andy Turner and a blissed trip by Anaconda resurface on the label of Swiss DJ, Princess P
The first release on Princess P’s s/t label reads the room’s need for transportive sublime on both finely matched sides. During the golden era of AI ambient techno, The Black Dog and Plaid’s Andy Turner made only a few forays as Atypic, including this gorgeous A-side ‘Otaku’, which first appeared on Rising High in ’93 and was included on Global Communications’ Fabric 26 mix.
It’s a prime example of Turner’s fetish for the sort of slinky Latinate rhythm that would also inform his better known projects, but found here at its sexiest and most svelte, synched to stirrups and angelic pads certain to still froth the ‘floor. ‘Ideas for Virtual Reality’ is the perfect partner piece, accentuating the focus on luxurious synth textures with 10 minutes of serpentine percussion bathed in lustrous pads and resolving to a dream-motion flow.
