Boomkat Product Review:
Killer new Lawrence joint for Dial here - opening with "Compulsion", a more alluring, complex beast than you might expect with it's chiming pads and staggered percussion carefully honed for the most cavernous warehouse spaces. Lawrence has always nailed atmosphere and melody - but this track revolves around a more dense, menacing spine that comes as a welcome change from many of its predecessors and reminds us of Carl Craig's remix work for the likes of the Junior Boys and Rhythm & Sound. Mighty stuff. "Pond" opens the flipside with some righteous percussive layering and another looped melody line that's a far cry from the standard Minimal fare shipping out of Germany these days, while "Laid One" ends the set on a total tangent, sounding like a slowed down Arthur Russell sample fed through a late night, head-nodding disco session. Brilliant stuff from Lawrence once again - and quite different from what you'll have come to expect from this always enthralling producer.
