Boomkat Product Review:
'Plus' is the fifth album of Disco-sensual Electronic House music from Sasu Ripatti in his Luomo guise. He's been no less than prolific this year, releasing celebrated work with his Vladislav Delay Quartet and The MvO Trio, but while they were outlets for his experimental inclinations, the intentions here are definitely dancefloor inspired. He works with the cryptically named Chicago Boys on a majority of tracks, apparently "a shy boy group of more or less known vocalist" whose identity eludes us, but whose presence lends a undeniably sexy gilding to his colder, club-galvanized electronic textures. They're the necessary soul counterpoint to his insistent, inhumanly hi-tech detailing, but even then they're often processed to reflect his electronic surfaces, like preening echos caught in a maze of chromed club decor deflecting the disco lights with a consensual psychedelia on the likes of 'How You Look', or the sexy, supple 'Form In Void'. But really it's all about the lustrous, opulent, and aspirational production values; sounds, rhythms and refined arrangements which almost instantly transform any space they're played into sexier, more sophisticated places.
