Boomkat Product Review:
Minimal Wave present their 2nd full length reissue of Yoshifumi Niinuma's eccentric hi-tech Japanese techno-pops. As with the previous 'Automaticism', there's a commendable ulterior motive to the release - proceeds are to help Niinuma cope with the loss of his home and studio in the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 2011. All songs were recorded between 1979-1980 and are as yet unreleased, coming off like a Far Eastern analogue to John Bender at times and ranging from 24-carat synth-pop delicacies such as 'Butoubyou No Syounen' to the strange and darkly tinted proto-techno of 'Anatawa Suguni' and the title track and through the skewed electronic flux of 'Quick Starttype', steppin' robo-bop of 'She Is Lunatic Machine' and urgent, noisier post punk with 'Untitled 1'. RIYL John Bender, Gary War, The Normal.
