Boomkat Product Review:
Taking atmospheric, menacing ambience to heady new depths, ‘Pilgrim’ is the latest emission from Scottish writer Michael Begg’s musical project Human Greed. Now joined by visual artist Deryk Thomas, this is Begg’s second full length and dives into a murky swamp of synthesized drones and mysterious samples. Layers of Coil-influenced analogue washes straddle dark snippets of voices and field recordings to create an atmosphere which could enswathe the grimmest of David Lynch’s filmic output. It all works rather well, conjuring up exactly the mood I’d assume Begg and Thomas want us to submerged in and if you harbour a dark spot for Coil or their contemporaries then you should definitely give ‘Pilgrim’ a look.
