Boomkat Product Review:
Recorded in parallel with the Juggernaut soundtrack, Piasa... Devourer Of Men is another score from the Sun City Girls archive, recorded in 1993. It's from another as yet unreleased film, so it's probably rather tricky to assess this as anything other than an album in its own right. While it taps into a similar musical idiom as the kind of freeform culture-defying sounds that defined Juggernaut, this score comes in shorter bursts which lend an edge of frantic schizophrenia that works out surprisingly well. The Sun City Girls' predilection for the most obscure corners of world music culture is more comprehensively represented than on its partner album, making for a disjointed narrative of eastern pipe music, percussion-driven exotica and guitar-driven disharmony.
