Boomkat Product Review:
Deep, grumbly nu-disco music by Andy Vaz on Persistencebit records, offset by some beautiful artwork adorned with eerie floral photographs. The artwork has everything to do with the music - the "people inside / outside" vocal sounds like it’s been voiced by a computer program, "and those on death row" wanders in and out of the mix, like a strangely constructed Theo Parrish record, its emphasis end ing elsewhere than the particular feel of Theo's drum patterns and deep bass kicks. The B side kicks off with “Not afraid(night-time mix)” and instantly Mr Vaz seems to be more at home inside this more minimal and german sweeping affair, way more subtle than the a side. “Off-key” is surprisingly enough, off-key, moving around in a way that will confuse people expecting something simpler or straighter. Actually for our money, the strongest track on the 12" - just edgy enough to keep you wanting more, then delivering, only more so. Fans of Matthew Herbert’s peripatetic dj sets should enjoy this simply addictive track and yet another remarkable twelve from Andy Vaz.
