Boomkat Product Review:
Three of the four tracks on this EP are unreleased studio tracks recorded by the band during the same sessions that gave birth to their incredibly well-received 2005 album 'Feels'. The title track has a "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" chorus (if you can call it that) that sounds like it's been lifted straight out of Nirvana's 'Lithium' and placed into a soundworld of euphoric psychedelia that's fast becoming the band's trademark. Next up is 'Tikwid' which manages to encapsulate everything that made the Feels LP so special - it's four minutes of scattershot melodies and Brian Wilson harmonies. 'My Favourite Colors' is a brief, beatless and wholly ethereal trip, with processed vocals drifting around the mix, untethered. Despite the lack of solid structure it still all feels beautifully melodic. In addition to these studio tracks, there's a live rendition of 'People' to finish the EP off. It's proof that Animal Collective aren't reliant on all that production trickery and sound-bending to define their sound for them. Excellent stuff.
