Featuring slippery, techy groovers from rRoxymore, Lurka, K-LONE, Facta, Iglew and others, 'Pattern Gardening' reboots microhouse, the short-lived deep house variant that kept Force Tracks, Perlon and Kompakt afloat in the early '00s.
It was bound to happen, and to their credit, the Wisdom Teeth crew have been repping microhouse and its variants for years. They commissioned 22 tracks for 'Pattern Gardening', inviting their friends to update the micro/minimal/tech-house sound - the kinda gear that artists like Swayzak, Farben, Akufen and Ricardo Villalobos figured out as DAW audio editing made incremental changes easier to implement. There's a lot to get through then, but the set has its clear high points: Shielding's 'Loop-Finding-Jazz-Records'-influenced 'Ny4' is charmingly woozy, and Facta and K-LONE deploy us back in 2002 with a suitably circuitous tongue-in-cheek ass shaker made from shaved-down drum hits, Akufen-like vocal mumbles and relentlessly jazzy chords.
Elsewhere, rRoxymore uses the opportunity to go deep on 'Nightbight', balancing her bouncy, uptempo kicks with winding, psychedelic leads, and Piezo gives us a blast of BPitch-era spikiness with the electro-inflected banger 'La Manina'.
