Boomkat Product Review:
we'll acknowledge that the cover looks strangely similar to Phil Collins’ ‘Face Value’ album, but that’s where the comparisons end, believe me. Oh no, wait, ‘Patience’ also sounds rather a lot like early Genesis too (when they were good) so I guess that’s ruined it then huh? Well we can forgive ex-Van Der Graaf Generator mainman Peter Hammill, ‘Patience’ was originally released way back in 1983, when I think these things may have been acceptable. I mean, there was synthpop and over-consumption of cocaine so I think a lot slipped in the early 80s – thankfully Hammill managed to sidestep all this and produce a rather nice little slice of prog. I could compare this to the work of another ex-frontman and prog legend Peter Gabriel (with whom Hammill has collaborated), but Hammill’s work was surprisingly less bombastic and less image intensive, instead opting for the subtle approach. Apparently this album has been unavailable for quite some time now, it’s nice to see that it’s been discovered once more for young prog followers to dig up and enjoy.
