Boomkat Product Review:
Ivan Pavolv's music has always occupied a territory somewhere between an industrialised Giorgio Moroder and Pan Sonic. On this new EP that becomes ever more the case, as Pavlov condenses his sound into something at times approaching recognisable dance music. Though the EP starts in abstraction with 'Path 1', a restless digital bass throb, littered with stops and starts, by the time the track ends some semblance of arpeggiated machine music rears its head. On 'Path 3 (Dynamo Baby, Bore Me Numb)' Pavlov begins with a primordial, panning bass pulse only to elaborate on it to the point where it stealthily becomes a kind of propulsive proto-disco you could actually imagine getting played in a club. Albeit a very, very weird club. As you'd hope from a Coh release, this is captivating experimental electronic music, devised with a not entirely straight face.
