Boomkat Product Review:
Back in stock. Quite typical of Static Caravan's recent form, this album combines folksy guitar plucking and glockenspiel chimes with a strong grasp on electronic production techniques. The personnel at the heart of all this are Jonathan Twilight Orr and Little Sparta's Alan Boyd, who don't shy away from the forest-bound, druid-styled iconography that tends to be associated with contemporary British alt. folk. For all the Jewelled Antler-type freeform wyrdness of opening cut 'First Desire Of The Reclining Virgin', there's something quite jarring with the electronic interventions of tracks like 'Rose Grenades' or 'Séance Fiction', the latter of which calls upon a fearsome bitcrushed drone for its central sound. Even so, there's a carefully defined atmosphere cast over these compositions, as touched on by the evocative, retro soundtrack horseplay of 'The Ruins Of Alamount' or 'Ritornelle Serenade's rewired folksy string drones.
