Boomkat Product Review:
Donaeo's debut album 'Party Hard' could be considered as something of a milestone within the now established Funky scene, posited as only the second full length album to have emerged from the nascent scene after Geeneus' pivotal 'Volumes: One'. The producer/DJ/Singer has been doing his thing as a garage/Urban linchpin under the Mr Fidget alias for some years before the Funky template was borne from the nourishing rhythms of Garage, R'nB, US House and West London Broken Beat. His unavoidable hits 'Devil In A Blue Dress', 'African Warrior' and the awesome 'Party Hard' have rightfully elevated his profile over the last 12 months, leading to this well polished and realised debut album. Rubbing up next to those cuts are a selection of flexing party tracks from the slow-junglist opener 'Riot Music to the hard drums and sexy syncopations of 'Watching Her Move' or the serious Broken-Afro-Beat highlight 'Forbidden Fruit'. West African flavours burst through on 'Mind Your Business' while the tuff Kanye-style 808 plus autotune workout on 'Be Mine' should leave a few heads spinning. Admittedly the vocals will ward-off a huge number of you but if you can just let your guard down for 40 mins the majority of this album will really appeal to lovers of everything from deep house to the more rhythmic side of Dubstep. With players like Donaeo, Cooly G and Roska representing the sexy but darkly tinted club flavour of UK Funky the scene is in very safe hands and we're just waiting to hear what happens next. Ace.
