Boomkat Product Review:
Vienna's Elektro Guzzi trio present another unfeasibly tight set of seven Techno/Post Punk tracks played without overdubs on guitar, bass and drums. With some recording assistance from the legendary Patrick Pulsinger they've achieved a brilliantly unnatural sound, effectively imitating the metronomic grooves of machine-made music but without the carbon footprint. At a time when guitars and "real" band setups are on the wane in favour of computerised production, especially in the electronic music realm, the trio of Bernhard Hammer (guitar), Jakob Schneidewind (bass) and Bernhard Breuer are bravely, and importantly - successfully - going against the grain, reducing their ideas to a singular, forward motion which works regardless of the man or machine query. In the likes of 'Vertical Axis's oval bass groove and haunting dissonance, the uptempo Detroit flow of 'Redford' or the hypnotic tribalism of 'Moskito' you've got a deadly, lean and muscular sound whose infidelities and swing you'd struggle to recreate on any plugged-in box. Fans of My Disco, Steve Moore, Patrick Pulsinger need to check this quicksharp.
