Boomkat Product Review:
Two Ton Boa popped up about six years ago with an EP (also for Kill Rock Stars) did a bit of touring and then seemed to drop off the map. Now they’re back with a full length album and it’s jam packed with the sort of venomous punk-rock anthems the world is crying out for at the moment. Vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Sherry Fraser fronts the band and laces the tracks with her sultry charm, a gloomy place somewhere between PJ Harvey and early Helmet. It’s sometimes bordering on metal, sometimes bordering on punk, but always with the sort of spunky feminine attitude that should really sell more records. The backbone of this sound is a twin bass sound apparently pioneered by Fraser herself, this gives each track a characteristic growl on which Fraser’s powerful vocals do their thing with much panache. As she purrs and growls her murky poetry you want to do whatever it takes to join in… scary but ultimately enticing, possibly explaining the presence of Medusa on the front cover?
