Boomkat Product Review:
Whilst a serious dearth of photographs exist of the Harlem collective No Neck Blues Band and their aversion for granting interviews is the stuff of legend, their musical legacy shines loud and proud. Comprised of 'jams' recorded between 1999-2003, 'Parallel Band' is a 2CD set that sizzles and jolts through a kaleidoscope of sounds and styles; dredging modal blues, African rhythms and fragmented rock&roll from the very depths of group cohesion. At times challenging, pieces like 'The Bruce Effect' and 'Weaving & Then Waving Straps' are at turns muted and cacophonous, suspending balls of static amongst frantic rhythms, thunder-claps of guitar and barely defined vocals. Including the genuine epic 'Beyond The Edge The Carpet Cannot End At' (45 minutes of John Fahey influenced goodness) and the metronomic 'Lllirikum', 'Parallel Band' is the sound of lofty ambitions being expertly realised.
