Boomkat Product Review:
Not willing to stay still for an instant Dial alum John Roberts brings an air of weirdness and whimsy to this latest EP. With the sound of a broken tape recorder and a collection of samples that sound like they’ve been combed from the archives of Moondog, ‘Paper Frames’ puts Roberts in-between Andy Stott’s ‘knackered house’ and the kind of abused tape collage of Jeremiah Jae or Madlib. Creaky and peculiar without resorting to familiar ‘dark’ tropes or house music cliché, this is and intriguing take on the genre and one that’s sure to have fans of Jamie xx, James Black and even Sensate Focus giving it a good sniff. Recommended.
