Boomkat Product Review:
The debut album from Martin Gretschmann's Console project 'Pan Or Ama' has been re-mastered and re-packaged with two extra tracks for this reissue, and what a treat it is. It's all too easy for electronica records (particularly those released as far back as 1997) to sound dated when revisited years down the line, but no such criticism could be levelled at Pan Or Ama. It's an album whose success comes from an impressive handle on writing instrumental pop songs which doesn't rely too heavily on the parlour tricks of technology. Take for example the understated melodicism of 'Display' whose crisp beats never distract from the supremely musical synth work, or the unfathomably warm minimalism of 'Davy Jones' Locker'. Excellent, ageless material.
