Boomkat Product Review:
Outlines are an electronic funk/pop act and have found themselves a nurturing home on the prolific Sonar Kollektiv label, however I'm not sure quite how to take their brash take on the genre. Firstly this is an undeniably poppy album - sounding like it would be well suited to the middle of the day on Radio 1 and I'm being absolutely serious here, it honestly wouldn't be out of place, the production is fat and over-compressed and the vocals are, well, singalong. It's almost like Finlay Quaye never happened - but the gang do manage to rope in some rather spiffy collaborators, we've got the Godlike Wu-Tang man RZA (under his Bobby Digital Guise), French hip hop legend Beat Assailant (yeah me neither) and Abd Al Malik all turning up for a studio session or two. Not really something I'd recommend to all Boomkat buyers, but it's sure to go down well when the sun's out and the ham sandwiches are being unwrapped. Party on the plage!
