Boomkat Product Review:
A 21-year-old Patrick Cleandenim released his debut album Baby Comes Home two years ago, accruing plaudits for his remarkably upscale orchestrally garnished compositions, but after that grand old debut Cleandenim's still embryonic talent has taken something of a U-turn, opting for electro-pop sounds styled on the chart fodder of the early '80s. You'll still be able to latch on to some glimmer of that early career orchestration, but it's deep-set into the background and the emphasis here is largely on a kind of new-romantic synth sound with noir-ish cityscapes referenced in the lyrics and a cinematic feel conjured up by the musical backdrop - opener 'Hotel Gaansvoort' is especially good at this with its spooky twinkling melodies, lines about cobbled streets and a coda featuring the sounds of heavy rainfall.
