Boomkat Product Review:
In one fell swoop, Purple Tape Pedigree debut the compelling new sound of 0comeups whilst also shutting up the label as we know it, ahead of rebranding themselves as PTP in pursuit of “a yearning to deviate further away from the traditional framework”.
Offering something akin to “a preset library”, the diaphanously rendered idents, creamy pads and percolated chorales of One Deep are presented as a study of a producer emotionally detaching themselves from the music and projecting their imagination into the studio technology of an alternate hyperreality.
The project arguably carries over some of 0comeups signature aesthetics from his previous alias, but the distinction between the erstwhile sound and the new lies in its far denser yet layered construction, stacking melodies, harmonised voices and pads with a fathomless depth of field and uncanny sense of ecological instability, as though one more misplaced sound could send the whole thing crashing down like a carelessly placed card.
If you’re into anything from TCF to James Ferraro, Maxwell Sterling or Holly Herndon, you need to check this out. Looking forward to what comes from PTP, too…
