Boomkat Product Review:
Akin to the sound of a man dressed in a one-man-band outfit being chased on a bicycle around the city centre by a horde of drum & bass aficionados who had a soft spot for old-skool rave and a dash of post-punk, Cutting Pink With Knives are as genre puddled as you like... The second album from the London based noisecore merchants, 'Oh Wow!' joins the likes of DJ Scotch Egg, Romvelope and Doddodo in taking the polemical clatter of extreme beats then giving it all a top-spin of grand theatrics. Opening through the proto-punk squall of 'My Head Is Full Of Teeth', Cutting Pink With Knives (aka Dan Antell on bass, Chris Abitbol on vocals/synth and Edi Frankel on guitars/vocals) proceed to whip a force-ten gale of sonics across the cochlea - as the likes of 'Hey, Cowboy', 'Didi Got Fisted at The Smiths Disco' and 'Old Jeans, New Jeans, Whatever' all burst your senses clean open through unbridled enthusiasm and sheer aural might. Mixing shards of breakcore, punk, metal, electronica, hip-hop and throat-stripping vocals into a cohesive core might not sound like the best of ideas, but through their unashamed chutzpah and thundering momentum they just about pull it off. Slice and dice!
