Boomkat Product Review:
Superb session of dense yet ultra-spacious ambient electronica and Hip Hop beats outta Oakland, California. Like a smudged, underwater adjunct to Parallel Thought, or a bulkier take on the psychedelic decimations of DAK, 'Oakland Blackout' consists of four tracks produced on-the-fly - samples mapped to MIDI controllers, with FX and automation played on faders - and layered with edits of analog modular synth and a Yamaha FM synth from the '80s. The results are evidently greater than the sum of their inputs, from the sweltering Dub Hop lope of 'Bye Bye Baby' and its oceanic noise finale to the roiling rhythms and shoegaze-like harmonic bloom of 'My Mermaids' or the incredibly BoC-like swoon of 'Muder Party'. Impressive.
