Boomkat Product Review:
Australian trio Pivot are new to Warp, and are likely to be talked about in the same breath as Battles - both bands experiment with math-rock and post-rock formats, and you'd have to say that Pivot pull it off with no small amount of success. There is something slightly heartless about the machinated instrumental relentlessness of it all, but the combination of soundtrack electronics and taut guitar, drums and bass interaction proves difficult not to admire, whether on the Goblin-meets-Vangelis title track or the Jean-Michel Jarre synth and drum machine patter of 'Fool In Rain'. Funnily enough, the man recruited for the artwork here (Michel Grainger) has previously tackled sleeves for Jarre, so clearly Pivot are not unaware of the similarity. Very good indeed.
