Boomkat Product Review:
'NYC Stuff and NYC Bags' is the follow-up to Vondelpark's well received R&S debut at the end of last year. They seem to have shifted down a rhythmic gear, paring back the overt 2-step infusions in place of a slower, more soulful backbone of shuffling electro and hazy, finger-popping Yacht finesse, while the songs feel enriched with a bolder pop confidence just shy of The XX. That comparison is undeniable in 'TV', which feels like said group refracted through a vintage convex TV screen so the white-boy soul vocals feel distantly warped and guitars are frayed into the peripheries. Next, 'Feat B' clearly warrants the Yachting analog as plangent guitar licks and swaying tropical memes swirl on deck in a romantic twilight shuffle, before 'Camels' and the gospel-tinged organ chords of 'Hipbone' uncannily strike the same neo-soul nerve as label mate James Blake.
