Boomkat Product Review:
Exquisite, crystalline electronica from Sapporo-born, Tokyo-residing musician/designer Naoto Taguchi. Most strikingly, Naoto's first international release really stands out from the rest of the Nomadic Kids Republic roster, reversing the trend for sanguine drone bliss-outs with something more kinetic, quirky and texturally detailed. Throughout 'Nostalgia' Naoto finds an enjoyable balance between filigree micro-rhythmic textures and arrangements, and more plangent electronics tonalities, structuring highly dextrous and often exceptionally cute musical figurines which captivate like a Fabergé music box. There's nary a blue or melancholic moment to be found, as each new track seems to sustain this almost impossibly fragile and impeccable economy of glassy melodies, candied keys and tinkling café ambience with a charm and positivity that's not to be sniffed at. His melodic ideas appear to be gleaned from hushed jazz and folk modes, in much the same way as say Sanso Xtro or The Remote Viewer, and finished with a perfectionist's attention to microscopic detail which we reckon a lot of you will really appreciate.
