Boomkat Product Review:
Nostalgia brings together seven live recordings by Melbourne's HTRK, committed to tape under the most lo-fi of circumstances during the band's 2004 tour of Sydney. This trio cite the likes of Pita and The Birthday Party as key influences, and sure enough there's a pervasive quality of spiky, post-industrial sound tinkering that's part post-punk DIY and part soundscaped noise freakout. It's hard to say exactly what relationship the rough and dreamlike textures of Nostalgia have to the band's forthcoming debut album Marry Me Tonight, but this LP's thick, gooey bass and fiery ambiences certainly do enough to get you a bit excited. An excellent release that nicely balances its noise and pop credentials.
