Boomkat Product Review:
Originally released as a vinyl edition of just 525 copies, this title from Wooden Wand's principal backing band has been given an extremely welcome full-scale release courtesy of the ever-reliable Important Records. Nordic Visions was recorded around the same time as James Toth was assembling Second Attention with the Sky High Band and features G. Lucas Crane (of Non Horse), Pete Nolan (of Magik Markers), Heidi Diehl and Steven J. Taveniere in prime form, summoning up the kind of creeped-out, haunted forest psych jams only they can. The lengthy title track offers a magical brew of bluegrass-style acoustic guitar grooves, searing horn dislocations and lapping waves of free drumming, all presented with precisely the right balance of recording clarity and thick, luxurious tape fog. 'Eideltrout' is a truly ghostly guitar and loop pedal mantra, coming somewhere close to the faded, intangible ambience of a Grouper session, while the clattering improv of 'Dewey Ishmael Wolf' is held together by some near shamanic vocal incantations. Top notch esoterics from the very weirdest end of New Weird America.
