Boomkat Product Review:
Nice to see this beautiful album finally given a UK release, Keren Ann's Nolita has been one of our favourite albums emerging out of France's new wave of Chanson and follows in the footsteps of the excellent Francois Breut whose "Vingt A Trente Mille Jours" remains a milestone in modern french singer-songwriting. "Nolita" is Keren Ann's second album and finds her writing in her brooding native tongue and in English, a mixture of intimate songs that at times remind me of Hope Sandoval, although the delivery here is much more fragile and broken. The opening "Que N'ai-Je" sets the tone perfectly, hushed sweeping drums, a distant organ, double bass and a lightly strummed guitar, creating a hazy wash that works wonders. Lovely music.
