Boomkat Product Review:
All low-end fiends need to cast their hazy minds back to last year and the release of a special vampire slaying release from Yorkshire bassgeist a.X.X.o on 'Silver Bullet'. Seemingly dropping out of nowhere with a heavy blend of LFO tweaking subbass licks and stone cold dub techniques this was an unexpected release involving a character not normally associated with this particular scene, but nonetheless someone who has enjoyed huge success as part of another outfit - one that would startle you if you knew. Anyway, him and his crew are back again to drown your summer in sweltering subs with the second release on Killtone and it's an absolute killer. Lead track 'Hell Plate' bears the resonance of bass soaked-up from dances attended at Leeds' West Indian centre with a blend of strictly dubstep styles, mixed with authentically rootsy FX. Our favourite cut 'Pritti Myce' ramps up the tempo to an urgently darkside and double timed swing with tuff subs and DMZ influenced percussion, while 'Thugg Step Empress' could be a Various Production offcut and 'No Idlers' does a mean half stepped dub techno thing reminiscent of Andy Stott's dub productions. Murky, dubby and lethal, just how we like it.
