Boomkat Product Review:
2nd of two new Altered natives albums, again swelling with mutant UK dance goodness that trips lines between jungle, UKF, broken beat and techno.
Like a family portrait of hardcore jungle’s first generation offspring, ’NINE - ALPHA’ checks for a ruck of styles that have mutated away from the original early ‘90s explosion and taken on their own character.
Fair to say he’s feeling the power of the darkside on this collection. Continuing a theme from 2017’s ‘The Black Album’, he hustles the dankest version yet of ‘Wet Nurse - Weißer Junge Schwarzer Muzikclub - Pt.3’, alongside the lip-biting breakbeat hardcore rudeness of ‘Teen Acid Fantasyland the scowling ‘#teamEVIL’, while ‘Back To My Roots (Champion Girl’ simmers on the bad foot with a sort of mental jungle inversion and the deeply boisterous prang of ‘Trial By Drums’, plus a fully fledged jungle rush with ‘Prodigal Son’, and what is best described as Altered Natives music in his hybrid of romantic techno and and restless rudeboy drum programming in ‘Technobeah.’
