Boomkat Product Review:
Back in stock. Vintage European dance music stylings abound from the Chromatics trio. All manner of cosmic disco boxes get checked here: right down to the dusky female vocals, the period-perfect synths and the slightly dubious recording quality. 'I Want Your Love' is like Sally Shapiro crossed with Nico, whilst 'The Killing Spree' is a nod to '80s giallo movies (a lot of that around nowadays) while 'A Tick Of The Clock makes for an odd, experimental piece of metronomically minimal kraut-ish propulsion. And that's not even mentioning the improbably good Kate Bush cover. Chromatics tackle 'Running Up That Hill' with the kind of downtempo seriousness you'd be unlikely to associate with a group so steeped in seemingly whimsical retro stylings. Great stuff.
