Boomkat Product Review:
Uganda’s Hakuna Kulala grip Russian producer DJ Wulffluw XCIV for a turbo-charged rave set seething with jagged rhythms and incendiary synth dynamics.
The styles on ‘Ngoma Injection XCIV’ are clearly inspired by the techy rufige of Slikback and the dancehall-tekno mutants on Hakuna Kulala, but Wulffluw adds his own edge of cold, neuro synths and nervy details that set it in some sort of fictionalised cyberpunk sprawl encompassing Russia and East Africa.
Check for the strikingly dramatic sound deigns of opener ‘Kuama’ and the rolling Congo-tekno slant of ‘Ash Bay’, the Gqom-styled darkside hunch of ’Tuberarossa’, a slippery take on Nídia-liej Tarraxho in ‘Bara’, the freezing hardcore rush of ‘Nyege Digital Immersion’, and a killer sort of Kuduro/UKF sidewinder in ‘Durilla’.
