Boomkat Product Review:
Confusingly using the same title as the forthcoming album, this new EP from producer/trumpeter Andrew Blick shows off a little of what you can expect from his upcoming full length. A near cacophony of videogame melodies, with all the parallax dreams of OPN and the Witch House scene reframed with a bit more jauntiness, Blick’s sound palate is steeped in nostalgia. This all sidesteps the now passé 8-bit or chip-tune fad, we’re a few years further in the calendar now, all Shadow of the Beast and Hired Guns. Even the titles re-affirm this ‘1989’? ‘Betamax’? This is music for my generation, the generation of stickers on yer videotapes so you know how many films you managed to fit on that 180-minute bomber, and the generation of the 15 disk Amiga version of Monkey Island 2. Now the whole damn thing can fit on an iPhone, how troubling. Good stuff.
