Boomkat Product Review:
Hyperdub gone and done it again, enlisting the freshest young gun in the scene in the form of Darkstar, they continue to forage in the fertile urban undergrowth and return with the mournfully P-funked genius of 'Need you'. After making a defined statement of intent with his release for Clandestine Cultivations some weeks back, and a slew of killers for MG77 and 2010 recordings last year, darkstar has hit his stride here with a winning blend of woozily vocodered vox and 8-bit harpsichord riffs welded to bouncy subs and snapping percussion on 'need you'. Possessing an undeniable compositional talent that has rightfully drawn parallels to Various and Kode 9 himself, the man is making a name for himself as one of the most interesting producers currently operating within the ever expanding and mutating parameters of dubstep. 'Squeeze my lime' on the flip is no less ingenius, channeling the vocodered spirit of Roger Troutman over a Kode 9 styled funeral march with inimitable results, this track really separates this fella from the bobbing heads. Ace.
