Boomkat Product Review:
Pivotal, state-of-the-art jungle business, originally issued in 1994 but still sounding peerless over 20 years later! Newly available for the first time in nearly a decade.
Technically Rupert Parkes’ debut release as Photek - although he had already released records as The Truper, The Sentinel and a few other monikers by this point - the Natural Born Killa EP is arguably one of the UK’s defining contributions to ‘90s dance music.
The sublime, then-unprecedented breakbeats and jazzy looseness of A-side Consciousness and the furtive, low key sidewinder Rain were originally huge anthems at the hands of Fabio & Grooverider at legendary club night, SPEED and subsequently much farther afield, whilst the B-side’s downbeat gem Into The ‘90s was perhaps most famous as a crucial highlight in Journeys by DJ: Coldcut - 70 Minutes of Madness mix, where it was rubbed up against BDP’s Bridge is Over.
Very simply; essential.
