Boomkat Product Review:
Japan’s motorik trio careen forth with On-U Sound, helmed by the legendary Adrian Sherwood at the desk for five studio cuts plus a pair of live in dub mixes recorded at Unit, Tokyo, 18th April 2015.
Last spotted in a pair of remixes by Shackleton, the diminutive lasses weigh in a sound that, pound-for-pound, slugs more agile, speedy and effective than many others in the field of pounding post-rock/motorik techno dub.
#N/A is a masterclass in driving minimalism, intersecting the reductionist traditions of dub proper, and Basic Channel’s pulsating techno current, with a filigree attention to micro-organic shifts that could only come from a fine-tuned band, but also factored to nth degrees by Sherwood’s refractive mixing desk magick.
The live cuts are superb, too. Both A and B-1 from the trio’s N album pile forth thru a deft web of FX deployed with quicksilver sleight-of-hand by the On-U Sound don gorgon.
