Boomkat Product Review:
Billy Childish is one of those names so familiar yet still only vaguely known to most - he's a painter, poet and novelist, yet in-between busying himself with all this he's had time to put together over 100 LPs of self-confessed 'great rock 'n roll music'. Oh and should I mention he went out with Tracey Emin for a while featuring prominently on her Turner Prize winning tent? Well you now know the legend, and this album collects up some of his finest musical moments from a whole host of his bands and projects; The Buff Meadways, The Pop Rivets, Thee Headcoats, The Delmonas, Thee Mighty Caesars, The Chatham Singers and The Buffets. For 25 years Childish has been carving out his distinct personality in the music scene and this compilation only shows how influential he has been - from slashy punk rock and slashy noise rock which proved to be a big influence on Seattle's grunge movement all the way to blues rock and Americana. Each track seems to live and breathe in it's own distinct way and has more personality than a Tesco shipment of Kasabian records. If you like your rock 'n roll that little bit unpredictable then you'd better grab this right away.
