Boomkat Product Review:
On their third full length album girl band Slumber Party. wait, hold on a minute there. girl band slumber party? That's two phrases that should never go together, never ever, too much brain stimulation, maybe I should give these four ladies a break and give them a good review anyway? Nah I couldn't possibly, I'm very fair when it comes to girl bands, and slumber parties, and this one just sounds very interesting, that's all. Indeed it kicks the party off early with a rockin' piece of shouty electro-pop in the shape of '10-9-8-7-6-5-4', probably the loudest (and most effective) track on the album before edging more towards synthesized lounge pop (think a less svelte Broadcast) across the rest of the album. I'm not the biggest fan of electro-pop but Aliccia, Alia, Raquel and Naomi manage to make it palatable somehow, like Stereolab they clearly enjoy the sound of their equipment and aren't afraid to have fun in the process, which at times reminds me most of the BBC Radiophonic workshop - no bad thing! Sloppy electronic pop never sounded so addictive, now where's that girl band slumber party again - I'm supposed to be delivering the ice.
