Boomkat Product Review:
Having heard a bunch of Sickboy material before (he lives up to his name.) I was really expecting this particular disc to have me in fits of vomits before the end of the first track, yet surprisingly it feels somewhat restrained. Not in a bad way mind you, rather it sounds like the producer has learned how to fill the soundfield a little better than simply overdriving everything into a breakcore slop, and here we get elements of dub, hardcore, rave, hip hop and of course that all important jungle right up front for all to hear. There's even a bit of darkened piano/ambient stuff going on somewhere if you listen carefully - who'd have thought it. Pick of the crop for me is the almost booty-tastic 'Heyo Rhythm' that has a bassline heavier than most dubstep ever dares to go and if I'm not wrong samples Lil' John - you can't got wrong with a bit of crunk I say. Elsewhere we get the almost Autechre-like 'Metropole Hysteria' which closes an album that really dares to be different. Interesting stuff, and likely to destroy your speakers in the best possible way!
