Boomkat Product Review:
Much anticipated debut LP courtesy of a regular contributor to the Wolf + Lamb and Crosstown Rebels imprints. Along with Wolf + Lamb, Nicolas Jaar and Soul Clap, Deniz's name has been unavoidable in the last 12 months, from remixes for Chaim, Seth Troxler and Will Saul to DJ sets across the planet. 'Music Watching Over Me' includes versions of her two previous singles for Crosstown, the '80s disco bounce of 'Yeah' and the hazy Deep House of 'The L Word', in a set of deeply rooted dance music straddling the disciplines of New York's most sophisticated House music and modern, Teutonic electronic minimalism. When she's in House mode it's easy to hear why there's so much attention surrounding her, especially on the likes of 'Best Of' with its saucy keyboard vamps or the haughty, bassline-driven depths of 'My Heart', while the two sounds come together in elegant fusion on the title track or the efficient aquatic flow of 'My Ass' and 'One Chance At Happiness'. Fans of Isolee, Nicolas Jaar, or even DJ Sprinkles' more reflective moments can comfortably get down with this album.
