Music for the Church of St John the Baptist
Extended electro-acoustic drone composition by Subtext's Paul Jebanasam. In May of 2011 Bristol institution Subtext (known for the seminal early Vex'd 12"s) held a concert in a 14th century church in the centre of Bristol to launch the Emptyset album 'Demiurge' and showcase classical and drone-based works by Jebanasam and former Vex'd artist, Roly Porter. Sound designer, Paul Jebanasam, fresh from recent work on the Transformers 3 trailer soundtrack, conducts Viol, Viola, and Violin in a haunting piece of augmented chamber music created especially for the church of St John The Baptist, dramatically sweeping from waves of dynamically diffused electronics to a more sombre second section of strings and organ. The live recording captures the sense of space beautifully and benefits from a faithful mastering job by James Ginzburg. Recommended.
